IWCA Italy will be participating at the World of Coffee 2022.
From the 23rd until the 25th of June at the Milan Convention Center, piazzale Carlo Magno 1.
The Specialty Coffee Association organized the World of Coffee 2022 show for the first time in Italy, as it was originally planned to be in Warsaw. Due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, sadly thousands of Ukrainians had to seek refuge in Poland and the PTAK congress center, where the World of Coffee was initially scheduled to take place, was therefore transformed into a refugee camp.
The World of Coffee has therefore decided to move the venue to Milan and will donate 100% of the ticket revenue to the Ukrainian coffee businesses and professionals. Read more about it in this article of the World of Coffee News
The World of Coffee is one of the most important shows for our coffee sector and therefore the best event to officially present our newly founded Italian Chapter of the International Women’s Coffee Alliance. The International Women’s Coffee Alliance is a global non-profit association created to support and empower all women involved along the coffee chain.
In fact, did you know that most of the workforce along the coffee production chain is made up of women? 70% of plantation workers are women, but only 25% manage farms.
IWCA’s mission is to support women in the international coffee community to achieve meaningful and sustainable lives by encouraging and recognizing their participation in all aspects of the coffee industry.
Following the values of an NGO, IWCA Italy has the goal of supporting and promoting female empowerment along the entire coffee production chain and generally, to enhance and encourage the consumption of coffee grown in a sustainable way.
Eleonora and Bianca Bernini who represent Mokaflor’s third generation and are amongst the founders of the Italian chapter of the International Women’s Coffee Alliance, together with four other roasting companies run by women as well as two importers, managed to receive the official approval at the end of 2021.
