OUR NEW SPECIALTY COFFEE: ETHIOPIA BALE MOUNTAIN

Washed Coffee from Ethiopia

This very special new coffee comes from the Bale Mountain Farm, located in the West Arsi region. This area is difficult to reach as the only road leading to it, crosses a very treacherous terrain.

The owner of this plantation is Israel Degfa who is carrying out an interesting development program for the cultivation of coffee in this Ethiopian region.

In addition to focusing on continually improving the quality of the coffee and the infrastructure dedicated to its processing, Israel and his company offer micro-credits to the farmers that work with them, to help them achieve better qualitative results and to contribute to social projects. These include building primary schools that provide access to education for younger generations who would otherwise have to walk two or three hours a day to get to the nearest school.

The coffee is grown in a wooded area with fertile soil which is perfect for the development of the Heirloom varieties that grow in the region.

After the harvest, the coffees that undergo the natural method, are processed directly inside the plantation. The washed coffees, such as the one we offer on Caffelab, instead are processed in the nearby Washing Station of Mokanisa Bulga.

This coffee obtained a score of 88 points in tasting, in accordance to the SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) protocol.
